Stop guessing, start measuring
Every operation we walk into is losing money in ways its own team can no longer see. Not through negligence — through familiarity. When you live inside a process, the waste becomes wallpaper.
The problem with opinions
Ask ten people on the floor where the operation loses time and you will get ten answers. All of them partly right, none of them measured. Decisions made on opinion get funded on opinion, which is to say: rarely.
Measurement changes the conversation
When you can say "this specific gap costs £180,000 a year and closing it takes eight weeks", the conversation stops being about blame and starts being about return. That is the entire point of a benchmark.
You cannot fix what you have not measured. And you cannot get funded for what you cannot price.
Start with the number. Everything else follows.
